November 30 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm$99
Discerning the “Big D”: Utilizing Discernment Counseling Techniques in Working with “Mixed-Agenda” Couples on the Verge of Divorce. (Morning Session)
Your are in for a real treat as Licensed Marital & Family Therapist and Certified Discernment Counselor, Matt Stevenson, will be presenting on this unique approach to working with couples on the verge of divorce. Matt will help you understand the Discernment Counseling approach, but he will also show how you don’t have to be certified to adopt and utilize DC techniques in your practice when working with couples considering divorce.
Here’s an article written by Matt on Discernment Counseling called “I Want In but My Spouse Wants Out.”
- Participants will gain a better understanding of the concept of a “Mixed Agenda Couple”, which includes the “leaning-in/leaning-out” dynamic, and how it creates unique challenges for the couple, separate from other areas of conflict.
- Participants will gain a better understanding of the vital role of the Couples Therapist or Discernment Counselor in working with couples who are considering divorce. Participants will also learn, in more depth, how to overcome the unique roadblocks to helping these types of couples.
- Participants will learn how to recognize the “leaning-in/leaning-out” behaviors in couples, and be able to utilize techniques and concepts specific to Discernment Counseling in working with these types of couples.
