If you have been a practicing clinician for more than a year, then it is probably a safe assumption that you have had a client (most likely a few) who has expressed having sexually compulsive issues that have been disruptive to their lives in some way. If you are a ministry leader in a congregation of 50 or more members, then you have undoubtedly seen the devastating effects of sexual addiction and compulsion among your members and their families. Therefore, with this tsunami upon us, it is a safe bet that if you plan on staying in the field of mental & relational health and/or church ministry, then you are going to see more and more of the effects of sexual compulsion and addiction among your clients and church members.
Carrie, Rebel, and Josh, co-owners and therapists at, Family Solutions Counseling have built solid and thriving practices, which we continue to grow and expand, that is saturated with individuals and families that are suffering from the devastating and traumatic effects of this addiction. Thus, in this workshop, they hope to provide you with information and tools that will help you serve your clients and/or congregation members whom have been impacted by this evil we call sex addiction. Joshua Nichols is licensed marital & family therapist and certified sex addiction therapist. He is a co-owner of Family Solutions Counseling, a multi-therapist group in NW OKC. Josh’s private practice primarily consists of working with sex addicts and couples impacted by sexual addiction and/or infidelity. As part of Josh’s practice, he regularly runs group for male sex addicts in the beginning phases of their recovery. He has recently started a group for male sex addicts in the advanced stages of recovery. Josh also regularly presents on various mental & relational topics such as this one.
Carrie Kyger is a licensed marital & family therapist, a certified sex addiction therapist candidate, and an LMFT state approved supervisor and an AAMFT Supervisor Candidate. She is also one of the co-owners of Family Solutions Counseling. Carrie has a passion for helping couples and family impacted by trauma. Concerning sexual addiction treatment, Carrie has developed a passion for treating partners of sex addicts and their couple relationships. Carrie successfully runs therapy groups for partners of addicts and has plans to develop advanced groups for partners further along in their recovery.
Carrie and Josh (along with their colleague, Rebel Buersmeyer, LMFT, LADC, CSAT) have developed a team approach for tackling the issues of sexual addiction. They work to help the entire system (as opposed to a single facet) with healing and recovery from the trauma caused by sexual addiction. During this workshop, they will share with you an overview of their model for treatment.
- Participants will learn more about screenings and assessments available to aid in the diagnosing, treatment, and treatment planning for clients dealing with sexual compulsion and/or addiction, and their partners who have been impacted it.
- Participants will learn more about a model of intensity for treating (a) the addict, (b) the partner of the addict, and (c) the couple relationship.
- Participants will learn more about specific tools that can be utilized to effectively aid in the recovery of the addict, the partner, and the couple relationship, such as: Therapeutic Disclosure, The Pyramid of Recovery Success, and The 90 Day Challenge.
CEUs: Approved for 3 CEUs for LMFT, LPC, LADC, and LCSW in the State of Oklahoma.
