There are many ways our bodies and minds respond to our experiences with trauma. Remember that trauma can be very subtle. It doesn’t have be big events or tragic situations (e.g., natural disasters, child abuse, etc.). Trauma can also be experienced very covertly, such as, emotional neglect, peer rejection, sudden change (e.g., moving schools; divorce). When we experience trauma, it leaves a deep emotional wound. Our way of dealing with these wounds is through compulsive behavior, which can even lead to addiction for some. Until these wounds are properly tended to, the wounded is likely to continue to cope with life in the compulsive ways they are familiar with. That is where this group comes in.
The purpose of this group is to help MEN who have acted out compulsively in ways which most likely resulted in creating a deep wound to the couple relationship. During these 10 weeks, you’ll dive into these difficult life experiences under the direction of a licensed therapist, in effort to help you apply the proper medication so that these wounds can begin healing. There is some prep-work involved; thus, we will need to meet with you for 2-4 individual sessions to prepare you for this group.
