Real life can be so difficult but it doesn’t have to be. I don’t believe that we are designed to go through life burdened by anxiety, depression, anger and conflict. And while we can’t completely insulate ourselves from the stresses of life, we can learn new ways of looking at things to become stronger, more confident people, able to roll with whatever life throws at us. I also believe we are designed to live in relationship with others, and it’s these relationships that can give us the most joy and pain.
Family is one of the building blocks of a strong nation and I see these relationships as the context within which great change and healing can take place. Unfortunately, it’s those same relationships that can become tumultuous and a source of great hurt and anxiety. I work with couples and individuals walking this difficult path. Many people come to me, either on an individual basis, or as a couple, describing the troubles they are experiencing in their significant relationships. And it’s my heartfelt desire to help a couple reach not only reconciliation, but a new level of growth and joy in those relationships. I specialize in Discernment Counseling, which is basically a decision-making process for both partners in a relationship. In any relationship in crisis, the first step is to decide if “couples counseling” is right for them. Often one partner wants to reach out for help to save the relationship, while the other is “leaning out”, for one reason or another. With such a “mixed-agenda” couple, each partner needs an environment where they can be honest about their own hurts and pain, as well as each of their contributions to the difficulties in their relationship. I can provide that environment, and give each couple the best chance possible for the future of their relationship!
Even if a couple is not on the brink, I love to help all couples with a variety of issues, such as conflict management and resolution, family boundaries, in-law issues, and assertive parenting. I see myself as a Christian counselor, utilizing established, evidence-based principles drawn from the Bible to inform my methods of lovingly and gently helping people through some of their most difficult times.
