The COVID-19 pandemic hit our world and country with a force unlike anything we have ever seen before.  In what seemed like a moment’s time, the entire world had to figure out a new way of living, a new way of interacting, and a new way of conducting business.  As you well know, mental health professionals where not exempt from this change.  In fact, although many of us saw an initial decline in our case loads, we  knew that we would eventually be needed more than ever.  Therefore, we all rolled up our sleeves, put on some boots, and strapped on our masks as we all worked tirelessly to transform our practices to be able to offer our community telehealth services.

This ethics presentation will be focused on holding our online integrity to the same elevated standards that we hold our in-office integrity.  This ethics presentation will take place in November on Friday the 13th.  This date is fitting for a couple reasons.  First of all, 2020 has simply been a haunting year!  But, the main reason the date is fitting is because ethics workshops historically make us cringe a little as we attempt to tackle topics and situations that are ambiguous to some degree when it comes to making the “right” ethical response.  I’m sure many of you reading this can recall the energy you feel in the room from the collective angst stirring up in each party present.  Well, given that most of us had to rush our transition from in-person services to telehealth services, I think it’s safe to assume that the ambiguity surrounding certain aspects of providing telehealth services is far greater than the ambiguity experienced concerning in-person issues. In fact, it may be downright scary!  We hope you will face your fears and join us for this online CEU event to learn and discuss how to uphold your integrity as you continue to serve your community through the use of telehealth services.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Participants will discuss and explore “best practices” for conducting telehealth services at their home and/or office. Participants will review confidentiality concerns regarding particular online platforms, as well as, confidentiality concerns regarding counselor and client location.
  2. Participants will be made aware of particular telehealth trainings that are available. Participants will discuss what level of training is appropriate in an ethical and professional practice.
  3. Participants will also discuss the ever growing phenomenon of online reviews. Participants will process appropriate and ethical responses to positive and negative reviews, as well as, whether or not it is appropriate to solicit reviews.
  4. Participants will learn and discuss the concept of e-professionalism. Participants will re-examine the rapidly evolving world of social media.  Participants will explore and discuss new and present challenges that clinicians and private practice owners are faced with in this age of technological advancement.

Location:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event will take place exclusively on Zoom.  In preparation for this event, please make sure you have downloaded zoom the appropriate device.  Additionally, make sure you are located somewhere that has good internet services as we cannot control the quality of connection on your end.

Cost: $65.00 – REGISTER HERE

3 CEUs counted toward Ethics for LMFTs and LPCs.

Note: Currently, the LMFT/LPC board is not reviewing applications for CEU workshops due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We have been advised by a representative that we do not need approval during this time; and that we can proceed with event using our best judgement as to whether or not it meets the normal standards.

We believe our workshops go above and beyond the standards.  Let us know if you have questions about this. Certificates will emailed following the event itself.
