The difficulty of navigating confidentiality with multiple clients present is frequently
intensified by the complexities of betrayal and affair work. Clinicians considering work with this population must first understand their basic rules for protecting multiple client’s information in this convoluted context. As with other highly evocative therapeutic presenting problems, clinicians must give attention to managing their own emotional reactions and biases in order to prevent exerting undue pressure for specific client outcomes. As such, clinical goals for treatment must be informed the the client’s desires. Clinicians are ethically bound to work toward recognizing how client stories may effect the clinician personally.
- Participants will be able to determine best practices for managing confidentiality with multiple clients in a betrayal/
affair recovery context.
- Participants will explore personal bias limitations and how to transform these beliefs into therapeutic
- Participants will be able to build strategies to clearly articulate the clinician’s role in the therapeutic process and to
communicate client responsibility
- Participants will be able to better recognize when to seek assistance from colleagues or other professionals
